Well, Surviving New Year's played to a sold out crowd at the SoCal Film Fest! I might be expanding the truth on 'sold out' a bit... but that doesn't matter... The fact is seeing SNY's in front of an audience reminded me of the joy of a post film making experience. It's so difficult to keep up the enthusiasm of getting a film seen by audiences. The joy in making a film is in the process of actually making it. I'm not thrilled in shopping the thing around to film festivals, dishing out entry fees in hopes they will choose my film. I've seen guys do that... spend years spinning the festival circuit looking for that perfect distributor. (ie Outsourced) I don't have the patience... I want to be working on the next project. However, all that having been said, seeing SNY at the SoCal film fest gave light to the joy of a festival. A fresh audience reacting to the film. And liking it! It makes me want to keep sending it out... and more so... it makes me want to make more movies!

Yes, I took the photo here... and finally got around to seeing Rude Guerrilla's production of NOCTURNE by Adam Rapp.

This was a wonderful piece of theater. I would highly recomend this to anyone interesting in some truly amazing work. Scott Barber does a fantastic job as a brother in search of his own life after he accidentally kills his younger sister and is rejected by his parents. Rick Kopps and Carolyn Kelly round out this tight and seemless performance bringing to the stage a riviting story about the complexities of loosing those we love most and the road to redemption.

Last week I was interviewed for a CNN local news station about the SoCal film festival. What was suppose to be a 10 minute interview turned out to be 45 minutes. Not that all of that will make the one and a half minute segment they will be airing... but it was great fun anyway. I must have plugged the Rude Guerrilla Theater Company and The Acting Class more than I talked about Surviving New Year's. We will see?

Yes, it's very exciting that Surviving New Year's will actually be seen by an audience. The Festival has not posted exact times and dates (but they better hurry up!) So it's kind of a pain to tell people when to come see it.

It will be the 40 minute version that the audience will see. Truth be that I like the longer version better. Of course, I'm suppose to.. I directed it... the longer the better right! In the longer version you see more character and story development. You see how people are led from one moment to the next. The shorter version gets right to the point and you rarely get a chance to breathe. I'm not knocking it... I like it the shorter version... I do. It's just hard to say goodbye to all the work that goes into making a movie.

And I really hope the actors get a chance to come. They are the ones who did all the work... it's an improvised movie and regardless of how many times they used the word 'Fuck" (except Sally and Al) it's their words that carried the film.. and the story.

Also... Acting Classes at Rude Guerrilla Start next week... Sign up today!!
