This class is about building actor confidence. It's about encouraging actors to contribute to their own creative process, think for themselves and make strong exciting choices for their characters. Most Importantly… Class is about having FUN, being creative and giving yourself permission to play. |
Classes are divided into three categories: 1. Warm-Up Exercises & Improvisation (This means breaking down insecurities, getting everybody present and ready to work and respecting the class as a place to work and create!) 2. Professional Development (This means learning how to audition with confidence and understand your resume, agents, casting directors and taking charge of your own career!) 3. Scene Study (This is the meat and potatoes of class!!! Work with other class members to rehearse and perform 5-10 minute scenes in class) |

| Questions and Answers: What is your approach? Read a detailed description of Here. How often do you work in class? Actors work every class session. What is the class size? Class size is limited to 14 people. We expect every actor to work each class session. To keep this consistent the enrollment for class must be kept low. How is the class scheduled? Class is broken down into 8 week segments. This class is considered ongoing. We believe that an actor’s training never ends. Acting, like life, is a continuous study. Actors who currently study with us have the prerogative to keep their spot in class and continue for each consecutive eight week session. What kind of work do we do in class? The primary focus of class is on scene work. Two (or more) actors pair up and choose a 5-10 minute scene to present to the class. A minimum of two scenes is required for each student. We also include improvisation, cold readings, audition technique, warm-up exercises, character exercises and career development. What material do you use and who chooses the scenes? You choose your own material. We will work with you to pick your scenes. Sometimes a scene will be assigned because you can gain something from tackling a particular character. Generally the material we choose comes from theatrical plays. When working a scene, you must do your research and read the entire play. Reading only your scene doesn’t give you enough information. Good actors read the entire play! On request, you can work a scene from a film, however it is very important to choose your material wisely. Actors have a tendency to mimic the actors they see in film. This leads to cheep imitations. It is our goal to train actors to think for themselves and make original choices. It is not acceptable to use scenes from a scene book or a monologue book. It is important to understand the developed character from the perspective of an entire piece of work. Original work is accepted as long as you discuss your intentions with the instructor. What are expectations for rehearsal? Rehearsals outside of class are the most important part of the actor’s process. We expect you to meet with your scene partner on a regular basis and rehearse. This means putting the scene on its feet and really working it. It is not acceptable to simple sit down and read over your lines. We want you to bring to class work that has been thoroughly researched, explored and ready to be seen. Come to class with costumes, props and strong choices for your character. What about cold readings or audition technique? As a part of class, we cover cold readings and Audition technique. We will prepare a mock-audition and each member of class will have the opportunity to practice their audition skills. In addition, we cover what you need to know for a professional headshot and resume. Class also provides a great opportunity for actors to learn strategic ways to enhance their careers. Do you teach improvisation? This is not an improvisation class, however, we do use improv as a creative tool to help actors loosen up and use their imagination. In addition, improv can be used to make dialogue sound spontaneous or help a scene feel more real, as if done for the first time. It might help actors break free from the habit of listening for their cue and really pay attention to their scene partner. Improvisation helps build confidence and gives actors license to be full of creative explorations. What is the duration of Class? Classes last 4 hours and students are expected to be on time for the beginning of class and stay until the end Is this a beginning acting class? We have students in class that have a wide range of experience. Some are just starting out, while others have years of training. Some are continuously working professionally, while others are just beginning to get their feet wet. Regardless of you previous training, all actors in this class are treated as professionals and are expected to treat the class and the work we do with respect. It is our belief that all levels can learn from each other. As true in professional work, actors will always face the challenge of working with people who have more or less experience than themselves. It’s not always about experience or training, but rather about dedication, enthusiasm and your attitude toward creating compelling work. How do I sign Up? Email or call 714-840-2358 |
